So I watched 'Gilbert Grape', i watched 'Total Eclipse', I watched all these films with him in and I didn't know if I'd ever get to work with him. But then his name came up when 'Gangs of New York' came along and by that time he' d done 'Titanic'.So I'd always known Leo as the actor, who also did Titanic, always this main drive towards developing a stronger and wider range coming out of the tradition of the actors I admire a great deal, De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Pacino, from that line, that lineage. It's a fantastic story so we're excited to do it.\"\u003cbr/\u003e11. film clip 'Gangs of New York'\u003cbr/\u003eHollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio and legendary director Martin Scorsese were in Berlin today to present 'Gangs Of New York' to the German media.\u003cbr/\u003eThe movie itself will be shown for the first time to the public when it closes the Berlin film festival, which takes place from 6th to 16th of February.\u003cbr/\u003eThe film has been shortlisted for four Golden Globe awards for Best Drama, Best Director, Best Dramatic Actor for Daniel Day Lewis and Best Supporting Actress for Cameron Diaz and is expected to continue winning nominations as the year's film award season gets into full swing.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen asked about his expectations for the elusive Oscars, Scorsese handed over to Leo, who was full of praise for the prolific director describing the absence as like 'a cruel practical joke'.\u003cbr/\u003eScorsese's latest epic is set in Lower Manhattan in the 19th century - from 1846 to 1863 - at a time of major political and social unrest. This was the time Irish and Italian gangs (and subsequently, the Mafia) first got a foothold in New York City. \u003cbr/\u003eThe American Civil War is in full swing, and the country is on the verge of collapse. Yet the riots of New York remain a largely untold chapter of history. Until now. \u003cbr/\u003eThe two gangs at the heart of the film are the Dead Rabbits and the Native Americans.\u003cbr/\u003eLEONARDO DiCAPRIO stars as Amsterdam Vallon,  son of the Rabbits' murdered leader.
