Papal Conclave, to keep them updated on the latest developments.  \u003cbr/\u003eCardinal-electors remain closed inside the Vatican walls while they vote for the next pope and are not allowed any interaction with the outside world.  \u003cbr/\u003eRosica answered a question about SNAP (Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests), the group which has said that Cardinal Roger Mahony of Los Angeles should not be taking part in the Conclave because of his alleged role in covering up a sexual abuse scandal. \u003cbr/\u003eMahony is alleged to have worked behind the scenes to shield molesting priests and protect the church from scandal.\u003cbr/\u003e\"SNAP has chosen to use this particular event to amplify certain things that it has accused people of, in the past,\" said Rosica.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Vatican spokesman defended Mahony's participation in the conclave, saying cardinals, including Mahony, had given much reflection to the accusations against them, but that \"there was no reason for them not to be coming here to the conclave.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles has settled four of the alleged abuse cases by vowing to pay nearly 10 (m) million US Dollars. \u003cbr/\u003eMahony retired as Los Angeles archbishop in 2011. \u003cbr/\u003eOn a lighter note, Vatican spokesman Father Lombardi answered questions about whether the Cardinals were allowed to drink wine or smoke during the Conclave. \u003cbr/\u003eLombardi said that, in keeping with good Roman tradition, it was likely that wine was served at lunch and dinner,and that cardinals \"are free to smoke reasonably\"  in their room or outside, but not usually in common areas. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I reckon they do follow common rules of politeness that they certainly know
