So consequently because of that issue, I decided I wanted to be safe and stick with a non-GMO this year.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Glen Moeller, Farmer\u003cbr/\u003eThose against G-M-Os believe that with no new scientific technology tested on humans, the potential hazards remain unknown. \u003cbr/\u003eNew allergens, toxin and other by-products may enter the human food chain.\u003cbr/\u003eAnti-GMO activists also say there are potential environmental hazards.\u003cbr/\u003eThese include cross-pollination of GMO seeds with regular ones, creating \"super weeds\" and perhaps even insecticide resistant bugs. \u003cbr/\u003eThis French farmer, known for his protests at home, has brought his campaign against GMOs to the U-S on the occasion of the Seattle conference.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"If we decide that it's dangerous, it's not W-T-O who must tell us what we should eat. So actually we don't want any hormone in beef, and we don't want any GMO in beans and corn.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Jose Bove, French Farmer\u003cbr/\u003eTwo-thirds of Americans don't know very much about GMOs, but over 60 percent of foods in U-S supermarkets have some genetically altered ingredient.\u003cbr/\u003eAmericans are slowly waking up to the consequences of eating genetically modified foods thanks to international protests.\u003cbr/\u003e71 percent of consumers say they now believe that labelling of GMO foods in supermarkets would be a good idea. \u003cbr/\u003eLaura Ticciatti is the founder of Mothers for Natural Law, a consumer group that has gathered over one and a half million signatures in favor of labelling.\u003cbr/\u003eShe believes that although not all GMOs may be bad for you, there is just no way of knowing. \u003cbr/\u003eTicciatti wrote the first consumer guide to shopping GMO-free in the supermarket. But it's not an easy task.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Our consistent thing is 'Mommy can we buy this?' and we go to read the label and we say well, no, because it has corn syrup in it, and we don't know whether that corn syrup is genetically engineered and I don't know if that corn syrup is even bad for my kids. That's my question. There's no long-term safety testing of these foods and so I haven't got any idea of whether or not it's ok to feed them to my kids or not.
