with their new take on traditional Mexican music.\u003cbr/\u003eAn all-women mariachi band is hoping to change attitudes in Mexico.\u003cbr/\u003eThe band, known as Xochitl, performs across the country playing all sorts of crowded venues.\u003cbr/\u003eTraditionally Mariachi bands are an all-male affair, performing well-known Mexican music.\u003cbr/\u003eYet, this group of seven women have decided to challenge the male dominated world of mariachi.\u003cbr/\u003eEach group includes two violin players, two trumpets, and at least two guitars.\u003cbr/\u003eBand members usually wear brightly coloured outfits, also known as charros.\u003cbr/\u003eJosefina Tellez is Xochitl's band leader.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says women mariachi players are still an uncommon sight in Mexico.\u003cbr/\u003eTellez started he musical career fifteen years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eHer band is composed by her nieces and friends.\u003cbr/\u003eSince then, her life as a mariachi has led her to release CDs and win awards.\u003cbr/\u003eTellez says her band's costumes are a different take on the more traditional charros.\u003cbr/\u003eThe band is recognisable thanks to their short skirts and colourful ties.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says playing in the band permits her to live a comfortable life.\u003cbr/\u003eOnce all seven musicians are ready, a waiting van takes them to their next concert.\u003cbr/\u003eThe long journey to the next venue is the perfect opportunity to rehearse their repertoire before the concert.\u003cbr/\u003eNadia Robles is the youngest member of the band.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says since joining the band she has begun studying music in school.\u003cbr/\u003eAs soon as the band arrive at the venue they start playing to a packed restaurant, full of men.\u003cbr/\u003eTellez is not only the band's leader, but also the main trumpet player.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother band member is Agustina Jim�nez.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says female mariachi bands tent to receive a better reception than male ones.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite some people's misgivings about an all-female mariachi band, the audience soon warms to them.\u003cbr/\u003eOne seasoned mariachi musician is Manuel Ledezma.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says women are just as talented as their male counterparts.\u003cbr/\u003eWhereas Andr�s C�rdoba says Mexicans should be proud of their women mariachi.\u003cbr/\u003eWith all the attention the women are receiving, some male musicians are feeling a little ignored.\u003cbr/\u003eRogelo Aguilar says he finds it difficult to admit, but women mariachi are just as talented as men.\u003cbr/\u003eRegardless of what some may think, these women are set to entertain audience for a long time, judging by the audience's
