Various of dogs playing outside.  \u003cbr/\u003eAt Christmas time some dogs get five star treatment, getting presents and special food, while others are neglected and even abandoned into animal shelters.\u003cbr/\u003eHorizons looks at what the lucky and unlucky dogs of London can expect over the holiday period.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Pugs and Kisses pet boutique in west London provides five star treatments for local dogs.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the boutique dog owners can buy canine accessories and gifts galore.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile downstairs in the pet spa dogs can receive a full makeover.\u003cbr/\u003eDogs like this Labradoodle - a labrador and poodle cross - arrive dirty, with muddy paws and a shaggy coat.\u003cbr/\u003eBut things will be different once pet groomer Claire Scadden gets her hands on him\u003cbr/\u003eScadden explains that the spa uses special products that don't irritate the dogs skin.\u003cbr/\u003eOnce this dog is clean he even gets a blow dry and later will get his nails filed and ears trimmed.\u003cbr/\u003eBack in the shop there are many canine beauty products on sale to make any dog beautiful this Christmas.\u003cbr/\u003eScadden says the spa offers a range of canine beauty services.\u003cbr/\u003eThere are also a vast array of gifts to put under the Christmas tree.\u003cbr/\u003eScadden says there are edible cards and even specially baked biscuits.\u003cbr/\u003eDepartment store Harrods also has pet gift ideas - some of which, like these diamante pet jewels, could set a dog owners back several hundred pounds (dollars).\u003cbr/\u003eBut not every dog has a happy home to go to this Christmas.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is the Dogs Trust Rehoming centre on the outskirts of London.\u003cbr/\u003eThe rehoming centre provides a temporary home for some dogs each week and there are X dogs there on any one day.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dogs are kept in glass-fronted kennels with underfloor heating, plenty of toys and a small exercise area out the back.  \u003cbr/\u003eMembers of the public who are thinking about adopting one of the dogs come into the centre and take a look at the dogs waiting for homes.  They then choose the ones they like are begin the interview and adoption process.\u003cbr/\u003eSome people like to spend as much time getting to know their prospective pets as they possibly can.\u003cbr/\u003eThe centre also has special facilities for the litters of puppies that arrive every week.\u003cbr/\u003eAs Christmas approaches the Dogs Trust slogan of 'a dog is for life not just for Christmas' becomes increasingly relevant, as Richard Moore, the Centre Manager for Dogs Trust West London Rehoming Centre explains.\u003cbr/\u003eThe centre gets 25-30 dogs arriving at the centre a week on average and rehomes around 40 -50 dogs a week.\u003cbr/\u003eOverall the Dogs Trust takes care of  some14-thousand dogs across Britain each year.\u003cbr/\u003ePregnant female dogs also sometimes come into the shelter giving birth to litters of puppies the centre then must raise and rehome.\u003cbr/\u003eDogs Trust try to find new homes for dogs of all shapes and sizes.\u003cbr/\u003eMoore says that giving dogs, or any animal as a Christmas present, can be an unwelcome surprise.\u003cbr/\u003eBut he says all the dogs who have to spend December 25th in the
