Various of people getting vaccinated\u003cbr/\u003eAs floodwaters continued to recede in Thailand on Friday, the Thai government was stepping up its efforts to control the spread of disease in many areas, including Phatum Thani in the north of the capital Bangkok.  \u003cbr/\u003eAnti-mosquito agents were being sprayed in residential areas still under water to prevent the spread of dengue fever.\u003cbr/\u003eYoung children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to waterborne diseases. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Friday, a government programme of vaccination was well under way, and health workers provided free vaccines for the prevention of diseases such as influenza.\u003cbr/\u003eAround a thousand influenza vaccines were provided on Friday at a sports shelter in Phatum Thani where 12-hundred flood victims were living temporarily.\u003cbr/\u003eThere have been no reports so far of any outbreaks of disease in the wake of the floods, but medical authorities are on the alert for diseases such as dengue fever and leptospirosis, as well as diaorrhea-related infections. \u003cbr/\u003eParts of Thailand, especially areas just outside Bangkok, still face weeks of flooding. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the Bangkok Metropolitan Authority said the overall situation in the capital was improving quickly.\u003cbr/\u003eSince July, more than a fifth of the country's 64 million people have been affected by the worst flooding in more than 50 years, and at least 606 have died.\u003cbr/\u003eSeventeen provinces remain under water, including Phatum
