But for breast cancer survivors they can be much more.\u003cbr/\u003eNow a project connects tattoo artists with women across the United States with breast cancer related scars.\u003cbr/\u003eBreast cancer survivor, Mari Jankowski wants to lose the constant reminder of her trauma by covering her chemotherapy scar with a tattoo that celebrates her mother and grandmother who both died of cancer.\u003cbr/\u003e\"By covering it up, it's kind of the last thing that needs to be done. The reconstruction is done,\" she says. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Personal ink, or P.ink, project was started by a Colorado advertising agency.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think a lot of survivors see this as their opportunity to define what breast cancer looks like on them and that is the ultimate in personal empowerment we are shooting for here,\" explains Noel Franus, founder of p.ink and vice president/director of experience design at CP+B.\u003cbr/\u003eFranus got the idea after his sister-in-law, Molly had a double mastectomy and was looking for something more than reconstruction or tattooed nipples. \u003cbr/\u003eShe turned to her family for ideas on a tattoo.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We looked into this here at the agency because we knew that there were a lot more Mollies out there, folks who had a very similar problem and maybe didn't like the two options presented to them,\" Franus says. \u003cbr/\u003eMari Jankowski had a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy three years ago. \u003cbr/\u003eShe had her breasts reconstructed, but her chemotherapy scar was still visible.\u003cbr/\u003eShe decided on a lily - her mother and grandmother's favourite flower. Both women died of cancer. She says she had been looking for a design for quite some time.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I mean the design Ashley did is just fabulous. I have been looking for two and a half years and she did it in one try,\" says Jankowski. \u003cbr/\u003e\"It's definitely something, you want to nail for them, because you know that means so much to them,\" says Ashley Neumann, tattoo artist at Rockstar Tattoo \u0026amp; Co. in West Allis, Wisconsin.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter about two hours, Jankowski's scar is turned into something more
