Jamie and Mishra are Red Pandas and have been extremely successful breeders at the...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eAustralia is a popular emigration destination for South Africans, although on Saturday two rather different emigrants will arrive Down Under. \u003cbr/\u003eJamie and Mishra are Red Pandas and have been extremely successful breeders at the Johannesburg Zoo.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd it's for this reason that they're being flown to Sydney's harbour-side Toronga Zoo.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the last six years, Mishra and Jamie, both eight-year-old Red Pandas, have produced 18 cubs for the Johannesburg Zoo. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd now they're being exchanged for two new Red Pandas, a 4-year-old female, Langtang, and a 7-year-old male, Pierre.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Amsterdam-based International Stud Bookkeeper felt that due to Mishra and Jamie's hard work, the Red Panda species in Johannesburg is now in danger of suffering from a depleted gene pool.\u003cbr/\u003eA predicament that would result in further descendents of Mishra and Jamie in Johannesburg being susceptible to disease and infection due to a lack of gene diversity.\u003cbr/\u003eSo it was requested that an international exchange be made for the good of the species as a whole.\u003cbr/\u003eMishra and Jamie's offspring have helped increase the global population of Red Pandas to around 300. \u003cbr/\u003eThough it's estimated that the population of wild Red Pandas, which originate in the foothills of the Himalayas, is only about 30.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two cuddly pandas had to undergo thorough checks in the Zoo's clinic before they could board their flight for Australia.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUND BITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"So we just examined them, checked their heart rate, their respiratory rate, made sure there were no signs of infection, checked their teeth out and basically just looking for any defects and both of them seemed to be nice and healthy.
