This is the best recognition they could ever grant us, and it cannot mean that Petrobras would abandon us or withdraw from Bolivia,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eBolivia caused shockwaves with its neighbour and largest natural gas customer on Wednesday by announcing that Petrobras, Brazil's state-owned energy company, would have to put its Bolivian profits in the central bank of Bolivia. \u003cbr/\u003eDa Silva's leading opponent in the October 1 election pounced, accusing him of failing to defend Brazil's interests.\u003cbr/\u003eBy late Thursday, Brazilian officials had persuaded Bolivia to suspend the rules, da Silva said.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile in Bolivia, the minister spearheading efforts to nationalise Bolivia's fossil fuels resigned on Friday after his government backed down in a dispute with Petrobas. \u003cbr/\u003eAndres Soliz said he was stepping down as hydrocarbons minister for personal reasons.\u003cbr/\u003eThe move came a day after Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera said Bolivia was suspending a measure - decreed by Soliz two days earlier - that would have exerted nearly total control over foreign extraction and refining of Bolivian natural gas and oil.\u003cbr/\u003eBrazil operates two refineries that process 90 percent of Bolivia's fossil fuels, and 50 percent of the natural gas Brazil uses for power generation and fuel comes from Bolivia.\u003cbr/\u003eBrazil and Bolivia have been feuding over the nationalisation plan ever since Morales announced it in May and sent troops to stand guard outside operations owned by Petrobras and other international energy companies.\u003cbr/\u003eMorales also touched upon another long-running feud on Friday - Bolivia's struggle with Chile to regain its coastline. \u003cbr/\u003eBolivia lost its coastline in a 19th century war.
