project goes ahead, it will feature a restaurant and a hotel at 4,000 metres.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, some think the idea is just 'pie in the sky'.\u003cbr/\u003eHigh in the Swiss Alps, the imposing Matterhorn mountain stands taller than all the surrounding peaks.\u003cbr/\u003eYet in the mountain's shadow, the ski resort of Zermatt could soon be elevated to new heights.\u003cbr/\u003eFor now, the resort's Klein Matterhorn stands at a humble 3,883 metres.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, if one local artist has his way, a new structure could soon be built on top of the mountain, raising it to over 4,000 metres above sea level.\u003cbr/\u003eThe project is the brainchild of Heinz Julen, a local architect.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says reaching 4,000 metres is something very special in the Alps.\u003cbr/\u003eThe proposed bar-like structure will be attached to the mountain, and extend for 117 metres.\u003cbr/\u003eJulen says the new building will include a restaurant and maybe even a hotel.\u003cbr/\u003eThe designers say pressurised air will be pumped inside the structure, in order to avoid height sickness due to lack of oxygen.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fashionable resort of Zermatt stands in the middle of the Swiss Alps, near the Italian border.\u003cbr/\u003eEvery winter, tens of thousands of tourists come to ski the resort's Klein (German for \"little\") Matterhorn mountain.\u003cbr/\u003eSome think the proposed project might encourage more visitors.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, others think Julen's idea is 'pie in the sky'.\u003cbr/\u003eChristoph B�rgen, the mayor of Zermatt, says they have always welcomed ground braking ideas, but to build a hotel on top of the mountain is not realistic.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the moment, those wanting to reach the peak of the Klein Matterhorn use a cable car, built in 1979.\u003cbr/\u003eThe car makes the dizzying journey from the village of Zermatt, at 1,600 metres, to 3,883 metres on top of the mountain.\u003cbr/\u003eFrom here skiers can descend into Italy's Valle D'Osta.\u003cbr/\u003eStanding at the top of the mountain is a breathtaking experience.\u003cbr/\u003eOn a clear day, it is possible to see the nearby peaks of Monte Rosa (Pink Mountain) and the Matterhorn.\u003cbr/\u003eKeith Thornton, a tourist, says building a 100 metre structure on top of the mountain will spoil its natural beauty.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother tourist, Keith Johnson, says the mountain should be left as it is.\u003cbr/\u003eYet some think the structure will enhance the area's beauty.\u003cbr/\u003eThe first stage of the project will be financed by Zermatt Bergbahnen, the local company which runs the ski lifts.\u003cbr/\u003eChristen Baumann, the director of Zermatt Bergbahnen, says people tend to fear new and daring ideas.\u003cbr/\u003eJulen estimates the project to costs around EUR 70 million ($97 million US Dollars) for the structure, and another EUR 50 million ($77 million US Dollars) for the hotel. \u003cbr/\u003eThe bar will also descend 130 metres downward into the valley, at an angle of fifteen degrees.\u003cbr/\u003eIt will have partially glazed lifts running along the 250 metres of the structure.\u003cbr/\u003eThe large structure will include observation platforms at both ends.\u003cbr/\u003eJulen says his intention is to create something for people love and
