Wide of church exterior, congregation leaving\u003cbr/\u003eThe local Catholic community in Whistler, joined by Olympic spectators and visitors, prayed during Sunday mass for Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili who was killed in a training run on Friday.\u003cbr/\u003eAround 150 people joined Pastor Jerry Desmond in prayer after the dedication when Kumaritashvili''s name was read out along with the names of other people who had recently died in the parish. \u003cbr/\u003eOur Lady of the Mountains, located at the foot of the mountains surrounding the Whistler, is the only denominational building in the small town, host of the Olympic Alpine, Nordic and sliding events. \u003cbr/\u003eThe church was built in 1996 and holds weekly services for the residents and visitors.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Sunday, the first Sunday of the Olympics, many of the church goers wore Canadian flags. Some had maple leaves painted on their faces. \u003cbr/\u003eDesmond, a keen skier himself, pointed out that several people die in accidents on the mountain every year. \u003cbr/\u003eHe usually includes their names in the dedication part of the mass. \u003cbr/\u003eNodar Kumaritashvili, 21, died on Friday when he came around the final curve at nearly 145 kph (90 mph), lost control and was thrown from his sled, over a track wall and into a steel post. \u003cbr/\u003eInternational luge officials decided to make several changes to the Olympic programme after that wreck, including having all sliders - men, women and doubles teams - start farther down the track than first planned.\u003cbr/\u003eKumaritashvili is expected to be buried in his home town of
