Mid shot man holding dirty child\u003cbr/\u003eIn a bid to prevent swine flu spreading in Mumbai's overcrowded slums, door-to-door screenings are now being carried out by medical teams.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the World Health Organisation, there have been 6,139 cumulative confirmed cases of swine flu and 176 deaths so far in India.\u003cbr/\u003eHealth checks on your doorstep. \u003cbr/\u003eThis is the latest medical service across Mumbai's slums.\u003cbr/\u003eDoctors are doing their rounds onboard mobile health vans, screening slum dwellers for symptoms of swine flu.\u003cbr/\u003eDr Kavita Thakur is a doctor at the mobile health unit.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says \"see, the people who are coming to see this mobile team are having most commonly symptoms of upper respiratory tract symptoms, that is fever, running nose, and sore throat, cough, few of them are having cough with the sputum also, and these people, on an average we receive around one hundred patients per day.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIt has been more than one month since swine flu reached its peak in India, causing mass panic across major cities. \u003cbr/\u003eNow, the crowds outside Government Screening Centres are growing thinner with each passing day. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the World Health Organisation has warned of a possible second wave of swine flu in the winter. \u003cbr/\u003eMedical authorities in India say tackling the spread amongst the poor is more vital than ever. \u003cbr/\u003eDr Ramesh Chaturvedi is a coordinator at the mobile health unit of Lokmanya Tilak Hospital.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says \"chances of it spreading is more in slum pockets, because first slum is a crowded, houses is (are) crowded and within the house there is a crowded.\" \u003cbr/\u003eAt Malwani slum in Mumbai, Syed Kaniz Fizza lives with her husband, five children and her sister-in-law in a 100 square foot room (ten square meters). \u003cbr/\u003eShe says if one of her children becomes sick, they all do. \u003cbr/\u003eAnd now that swine flu has been found in some of the slums, she's worried her children could become infected.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I have stopped my children from going to school, I've got medicines and even prayed,\" says Fizza.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than half of Mumbai's population lives in slums where basic amenities are clearly lacking. \u003cbr/\u003eBut for many slum dwellers, the H1N1 virus is just another one to have hit them. \u003cbr/\u003eIn Dharavi, home to more than one million people and India's biggest slum, the poor state of hygiene is clearly visible. \u003cbr/\u003eWith a population density of nearly 27 thousand people per square kilometre, contagious diseases have found the perfect breeding ground.\u003cbr/\u003eHasmatoon Nisan is a resident of Dharavi.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We need hygiene more than medicine, if it's clean we don't get sick,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There are no proper toilet facilities, water facilities are not there.
