It was held downstairs from the same hotel where she died and where her body was being examined by coroner's officials.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was a surreal scene: Elvis Costello took to the stage to perform as Los Angeles county coroner's Capt. John Kades arrived at the hotel. Alicia Keys arrived earlier and embraced Davis as he prepared for the show under extreme duress.\u003cbr/\u003eGrammy president and CEO Neil Portnow, who called Houston a friend, said canceling the party was never an option.\u003cbr/\u003e\"On a personal note, the loss is beyond words. As a spokesperson for the Academy, the industry, I guess I would sum it up by saying, there's only one Whitney Houston. There will probably never, ever be another,\" he said. \"Her loss is devastating to all of us, but I'd rather look at what she left for us. It happens. They'll get on substances because they're self-medicating for whatever reason and they leave here early. And it was sad for me to see that she was a person that had to deal with that. It made me sad because she was the epitome of class.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBut actor Peter Fonda said he was disappointed that Houston hadn't been able to overcome her addiction. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We're all very shocked by it and saddened by it, but it's not a surprise,\" he said. \"It should be a lesson for every musician, but all the people who have abused drugs and alcohol over the years still haven't made a lesson to the rest of the people who fall into that same mold. I think she was a very addictive character. And if you're that addictive and you can't be helped in rehab, then there's only one person that can help you and that's yourself.
