Nureyev's collection of paintings will be auctioned on Friday. \u003cbr/\u003eMany international buyers did their bidding by telephone. \u003cbr/\u003eThere was fierce competition for the Don Quixote jacket until it was pushed up over the 30-thousand dollar mark. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the price Nureyev's dancing slippers fetched was perhaps the biggest surprise. Figures in the tens or hundreds of dollars had been talked about before bidding began.\u003cbr/\u003eBut one pair fetched eight thousand dollars. \u003cbr/\u003eMost items were sold for far more than had been expected. \u003cbr/\u003eOverall the sale, we're hoping, is going to make something between three million and four and a half million dollars.
