An estimated 16-hundred Spanish-Cuban weddings are expected this year, compared to the 76 reported six years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eCommunist Cuba has changed drastically since the collapse of its political sponsor, the former Soviet Union.\u003cbr/\u003eCuba's struggle to survive in a broader non-communist market has brought tourism and, with it, a rising number of Cuban brides destined for married life abroad.\u003cbr/\u003eThis marriage between a Mexican groom and Cuban bride is part of the growing trend.\u003cbr/\u003eBut it is tourists from Spain and Italy who account for the majority.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Spanish embassy expects this year to register 16-hundred marriages between nationals and Cubans in 1996. In 1991 it registered just 76.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Italian embassy reported 350 marriages in the first six months of this year.
