Wide of bookstore\u003cbr/\u003ePope Benedict XVI's new book \"Jesus of Nazareth\"  appeared in Italian bookstores on Monday and already people were rushing to get their hands on the first copies.\u003cbr/\u003eBenedict offers a very personal meditation on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ in the book in which he criticises the \"cruelty\" of capitalism's exploitation of the poor but also the absence of God in Marxism.\u003cbr/\u003eIn \"Jesus of Nazareth,\" which was released on Friday, Benedict touches on themes that have begun to emerge in his 2-year-old papacy: what he considers the spiritual weaknesses of modern materialistic life in which people seem to think they can do without God.\u003cbr/\u003eAt a bookstore near the Vatican, an employee said as soon as he had unpacked the books, people were snapping them up and one hundred copies had been sold by noon. \u003cbr/\u003eMarcello, a bookshop employee, said they had already sold at least 100 copies by noon.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There isn't a particular type of person (who would buy the book). Benedict, whose personal style is somewhat more reserved and less engaged with the people, in his writing is extremely clear and immediately engages the reader,\" added Wauck.\u003cbr/\u003eElements of the book also point to a concern of Benedict from his days as prefect of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, when he sought to stem support for \"liberation theology,\" the theology of salvation as liberation from injustice that has been popular in Latin America. \u003cbr/\u003eBenedict is expected to explore those issues further during an upcoming trip to Brazil, officials said on Friday.\u003cbr/\u003eBenedict opens the book by stressing that his work, which he began writing in 2003 when he was still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, is an expression of his \"personal search for the face of the Lord\" and is by no means an official part of Roman Catholic Church doctrine.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Benedict, who was a prolific and well-known theologian well before he became pope, then sets out to give a thorough examination of the Gospel accounts of Jesus' public ministry to arrive at the foundation of the Christian faith: that Jesus is God.\u003cbr/\u003eThe book is the first of two volumes. Rizzoli, the book's Italian publisher, said Benedict is expected to write a second volume exploring the birth of Christ, his crucifixion and
