He visited the  Hall of Mirrors and stopped in front of portraits of Louis the fourteenth, the Sun King,  who consolidated his power in the seventeenth century.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter his tour of Versailles, Castro visited the famous Place des Vosges, in the heart of  Paris.\u003cbr/\u003eCastro's visit, his first as a guest of a major Western power, has become embroiled in  the French presidential campaign.\u003cbr/\u003eConservatives differ among themselves whether the visit was proper, and several  prominent right-wingers have criticised President Mitterrand for hosting Castro at lunch.\u003cbr/\u003ePremier Edouard Balladur, one of the two top conservative candidates in the upcoming  May elections, has refused to meet Castro.\u003cbr/\u003eJacques Chirac, mayor of Paris and leading conservative candidate, has also avoided  endorsing the visit.\u003cbr/\u003eCastro later visited a human rights organisation in Paris where he  said he was prepared  to review the cases of political prisoners in Cuba.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish with French translation)\u003cbr/\u003e\"There are a number of political prisoners, but incomparably less than has been  mentioned, because the vast majority have been released and we have even authorised  them to go to the United States.
