Wide of people exercising on treadmills\u003cbr/\u003eThink gaming and you might think couch potato - but some gyms are now using the joystick to kick start people's fitness regimes.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Dogfight Fitness Flight Simulator is one of the newest workout games in the world of Active Gaming and exergaming.\u003cbr/\u003eAt Powerhouse Gym, in Burbank, California, clients are trying out the latest in fitness gaming technology - or 'exergaming' as it's known. \u003cbr/\u003eThe state-of-the-art technology is a combination of an exercise machine and flight simulator gaming technology. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite the recession, the gaming industry continues to grow. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to an Health e-Games Market Report by Physic Ventures, the active gaming industry in the U.S. as a whole was a 6.4 billion dollar industry as of the fourth quarter of 2008.\u003cbr/\u003e'Exergaming' keeps users interested throughout the game, as young generations now want to be entertained while working out. \u003cbr/\u003eWith Dogfight, users fly a plane by pedalling and controlling a simulator with levers on the sides of the seat.\u003cbr/\u003eState-of-the-art graphics and sounds take users on exciting virtual flights.\u003cbr/\u003eDeveloped in California by Electronic Sports, a leading industry provider of competitive active gaming machines, Dogfight is meant to make working out exciting.\u003cbr/\u003eCEO Joe Dean says when people are engaged in what they're doing, they end up having fun.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The commercial fitness industry is really ready for a change like this and we think there's going to be a huge growth in this market. It's a multi billion dollar industry and we think we're the first company that really adopted it for the high end commercial market.\"\u003cbr/\u003eWith Dogfight he's merged the traditional gym and active gaming to engage the user so much that they don't realise they are working out.\u003cbr/\u003eHis mission is to bring innovative Virtual Sports and Active Gaming products to a new generation that enjoy online physical competition in their homes, gym or at local schools. \u003cbr/\u003eAs the user pedals the bike, the propeller of the plane spins. The faster they pedal, the faster the plane goes. If the user stops peddling, they fall out of the sky, so  there is motivation to continue to play and pedal. The graphics and the sounds absorb the users mind thus keeping them interested.\u003cbr/\u003eIn order to climb, the spring-loaded handles on the sides are pulled to work out the arms. \u003cbr/\u003eButtons on the handles fire weapons and there are targets to shoot at.\u003cbr/\u003eOnce the player has mastered the art of flight, battle commences and a competition with another player begins, as users compete for an adrenaline-pumped game of aerial combat. \u003cbr/\u003eThey also have a choice of futuristic aircraft in which to undertake their mission. \u003cbr/\u003eExerciser Oscar Gonzalez says he loves the game aspect because he forgets he is working out.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think I love it, I jumped on it for five minutes and I was hooked.
