There was some damage to the athletic track and the infield was in very poor condition and there was some general cleaning up to be done and the workers responded to this over night and the people responsible and it was all done. Mid of security\u003cbr/\u003eCommonwealth Games Federation president Mike Fennell said on Wednesday that urgent repairs to the track at the main stadium in New Delhi had been completed and \"all systems are go\" for the start of the athletics competition later in the day.\u003cbr/\u003eThere had been concerns that the start of the athletics competition would have to be delayed in what would have been the ultimate embarrassment for the games.\u003cbr/\u003eSuresh Kalmadi, chairman of the local organising committee, reported that an additional 50,000 tickets had been sold on Tuesday, a day after saying tickets might have to be given away for free to fill venues. \u003cbr/\u003eHe said sales were expected to improve because ticket booths had been placed at all venues.\u003cbr/\u003eKalmadi also said faulty scales at the boxing competition that forced some boxers to needlessly drop weight had been checked, and \"all 10 were found to be OK.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Commonwealth Games, an Olympic-style competition held every four years, bring together more than 6,000 athletes and officials from 71 countries and territories. \u003cbr/\u003eIndia wanted the games, which ended up costing between 3 (b) billion US dollars and 10 (b) billion US Dollars, to showcase its emergence as a growing economic power and possibly attract a future Olympics.\u003cbr/\u003eBut construction delays, corruption allegations, concerns about security and heavy monsoons put preparations for the games way behind schedule, with complaints about unfinished and filthy accommodations in the athletes' village embarrassing the hosts.\u003cbr/\u003eFennell admitted that the all the negative attention had hurt.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think that a lot of the adverse publicity leading up to the games has turned off some people, there is no question about that,\" Fennell said. \"You can't hide that.
