If democracy fails in Zimbabwe what options are you leaving to the people of Zimbabwe? Do you want, the people of Zimbabwe to take up arms as has happened in every other African case were there is conflict: Somalia, Burundi, DRC, Darfur, Southern Sudan, Northern Uganda, is that where you want to push us? And we are saying no, we don't want to go that route because we know that route is futile, is ephemeral. You can have a short time gain but because you have set the precedent of military destabilisation it will follow you. And there is a crisis in Zimbabwe, look at the arms that were turned away from Durban two days ago. What about the arms that are coming through other friends, who will not be as visible as the Durban situation was? And so we are saying please, stand up to the dictator, look the dictator in the eye and let the dictator blink. And I hope that message will be heard. So our options, yes, they are limited, but we are going to remain exercising restraint, we are going to refuse to be seduced to take up the normal African matrix of violence, of arms of little rebel movements in eastern highlands of Zimbabwe. Reporters\u003cbr/\u003eZimbabwe now resembles a war-zone, with thousands of people displaced, hundreds injured and ten killed by post-election violence, an opposition leader said on Sunday as he appealed for international intervention in the mounting political and humanitarian crisis.\u003cbr/\u003eTendai Biti, secretary-general of the Movement for Democratic Change, said violence since March the 29th elections had forced three thousand families out of their homes. \u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of people had been hospitalised with injuries and ten people killed, he said.\u003cbr/\u003eBiti said humanitarian agencies already present in Zimbabwe must be mobilised.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I call upon the International community, I call upon international humanitarian agents right now to intervene in particular the Red Cross. There is a war in Zimbabwe,\" he told a press conference in Johannesburg.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said key members of the opposition's administration had been arrested. \u003cbr/\u003eBiti and Movement for Democratic Change President Morgan Tsvangirai say they can't return to Zimbabwe as they also face immediate arrest. \u003cbr/\u003eTsvangirai is widely believed to have beaten President Robert Mugabe in the elections, but the results still haven't been announced after three weeks.\u003cbr/\u003eElectoral officials on Saturday began recounting ballots for a couple of a dozen legislative seats being challenged - an exercise that could overturn the opposition's majority win. \u003cbr/\u003eMost of the seats being recounted were declared for opposition candidates, including in Mugabe's home district of Zvimba.\u003cbr/\u003eBiti claimed the recount was rigged and the ruling Zanu PF had tampered with tally sheets and ballot boxes. \u003cbr/\u003e\"If democracy fails in Zimbabwe what options are you leaving to the people of Zimbabwe? The opposition said this was yet another ploy to delay the publication of the presidential results. \u003cbr/\u003eTsvangirai claims he won more than 50 percent of the vote, but independent observers said it was unlikely he received an absolute majority. Biti said Mugabe was desperate.\u003cbr/\u003eThe opposition released a detailed list of its supporters who had been injured and killed since the elections. \u003cbr/\u003eMany had their homes destroyed by ruling party thugs and youth militias, it said. It said a feared government minister, Didymus Mutasa, and army chiefs were involved in instigating the violence and training militias.\u003cbr/\u003eBiti also questioned arms flows to Zimbabwe, referring to a Chinese ship carrying weapons destined for Zimbabwe which docked at Durban in South Africa where dockers refused to unload its cargo in protest.\u003cbr/\u003e\"What about the arms that are coming through other friends, who will not be as visible as the Durban situation was?\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Friday, the country marked its 28th Independence Day celebrations, and Mugabe devoted his first major speech since the elections to denouncing whites and former colonial ruler Britain.\u003cbr/\u003eHe aimed in the speech to convince Zimbabweans that the current political and economic troubles were being caused from abroad.\u003cbr/\u003eBiti said the speech was further evidence that Mugabe had lost touch with reality. \"There is clear evidence of a mental dislocation,\"
