The carnival has arrived.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Festival organiser\u003cbr/\u003eThe malecon will set the stage and host parades, open air concerts, dancing and partying from now until August 15. \u003cbr/\u003eIts opening night came just three days before the fiftieth anniversary of Cuba's revolution - which is likely to draw huge crowds on what will be a national holiday.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Friday, carnival atmosphere hung over the seafront with traditional schools of dance such as El Alacran, Las Boyeras and Los Guaracheros de Regla parading through the crowds.  \u003cbr/\u003eSunday's carnival is dedicated especially for children.\u003cbr/\u003eJuly and August are among the most humid months of the year and with temperatures that rarely dip below 30 degrees centigrade, organisers have laid on special refreshment stalls to keep thirsts down. \u003cbr/\u003eAuthorities in communist Cuba have said the festivities will be modest and that the carnival is no exception to the rule when it comes to law and order. \u003cbr/\u003eAny Cubans taking part must carry their I-D with them wherever they go.\u003cbr/\u003eBut this island is famous for its sense of fun and the thousands expected to be celebrating over the next three weeks are likely to make this one colourful show on the shores of the Caribbean.\u003cbr/\u003eHavana, Cuba - 23 July 1999 \u003cbr/\u003e1.
