Bush nominated to head the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) - Military Air Force General Michael Hayden.\u003cbr/\u003eRumsfeld said his department was not trying to take more control of intelligence matters.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There''s no power play in Washington,\" Rumsfeld said.\u003cbr/\u003eHe called talk of bureaucratic fights between civilian intelligence agencies and military leaders \"theoretical conspiracies\" and \"all off the mark.\" \u003cbr/\u003eHayden''s nomination to head the CIA has raised questions from congressional Republicans and Democrats over his ability to be independent from the military establishment, as well as his ties to a controversial wire tapping programme. \u003cbr/\u003eRepublican and Democratic critics have also questioned the wisdom of placing an active military officer in charge of the civilian spy agency.\u003cbr/\u003eRumsfeld said there have been military leaders of the spy agency in the past and that would pose no conflict with the Defence Department. \u003cbr/\u003eHayden, who now is deputy director of national intelligence, formerly headed the National Security Agency and is a 37-year US Air Force veteran.\u003cbr/\u003eSome
