And after the use, we have collection points so people bring them to these collection points and we give them a refund of one shilling (0.01 US cent). So the toilet is sanitising the faeces so after use in three weeks it's a fertiliser. So why we are collecting it, a problem has becomes a resource and you can use it as fertiliser.\"\u003cbr/\u003e25. Various of Auma helping children with homework\u003cbr/\u003eAt least 2.6 (b) billion people in the world lack adequate sanitation and lavatory facilities in their homes.\u003cbr/\u003eIn some places human waste is left in rubbish dumps or on streets, where it contaminates local water supplies. \u003cbr/\u003eA simple biodegradable bag developed in Sweden is seen as a possible solution and is being trialled on the streets of Nairobi's biggest shanty town, Kibera. \u003cbr/\u003eKibera is Nairobi's biggest slum and widely thought to be the third largest in the world.  \u003cbr/\u003eIt is overcrowded and often dirty, leaving some residents no option but to live in unsanitary conditions. \u003cbr/\u003eMany of the homes lack running water and the majority do not have toilets.\u003cbr/\u003ePeople use public facilities or at night when they are closed, throw their waste onto rubbish heaps or into the street.\u003cbr/\u003eRuth Auma lives in Kibera with her three children. \u003cbr/\u003eShe is preparing her four year old son Obama to go to the toilet. \u003cbr/\u003eHe is going to use Peepoo, an innovative new way for residents in informal settlements to dispose of toilet waste.\u003cbr/\u003eRuth opens the bags and stretches it over a plastic bucket then motions for her son to sit and relieve himself.\u003cbr/\u003eAfterwards the waste will be tied into the bag and taken to a collection point to be recycled into plant fertiliser.\u003cbr/\u003eCamilla Wirseen is the Chief Executive Officer with Peepoople, the creator of the Peepoo toilet. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says that over four children die every minute around the world because of poor sanitation.\u003cbr/\u003e\"In the world there's 2.6 (b) billion people who don't have toilets. One child every 12 seconds.\"\u003cbr/\u003eKibera is home to over 1.5 (m) million people. \u003cbr/\u003eRecords from organisations working here indicate that residents have about one toilet for every 500 people. \u003cbr/\u003eThe costs of accessing this basic piece of equipment is way out reach for a person like Ruth Auma.\u003cbr/\u003eAreas like Kibera are famous for using what are known as 'flying toilets' whereby people defecate into ordinary polythene plastic bags then dispose of their waste by throwing the bag away - a practice which is unhygienic as well as environmentally unfriendly. \u003cbr/\u003eIn a bid to do something about the problem a Swedish professor came up with the idea of manufacturing the Peepoo biodegradable bags to replace the existing plastic bags and so the project was launched.\u003cbr/\u003eBy using Peepoo, Ruth Auma is helping to clear up Kibera and make it a healthier place to live.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd she says it is good for the whole family.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Peepoo has been of great help,especially for my kids. It's made it easy for the kids to relieve themselves. Now I don't use plastic bags but before we use to relieve ourselves and throw them in the dam or on the streets. She walks through Kibera each day selling Peepoo bags and teaching people how to use them and showing them where they can take them for collection.\u003cbr/\u003eShe says it better than some options open to her.\u003cbr/\u003e\"For me am happy to be working because otherwise I would be drinking illicit alcohol. And at least we are committed. There is a job but if I was to be idle then I would be a thug or a prostitute or on drugs. At least I am not in any of those.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIt's currently a small scale project but one with many benefits.  \u003cbr/\u003eIt means girls won't have to go out in the streets to go to the toilet at night, where there are frequent attacks, plus the streets will become cleaner and the risk of illness will be reduced. \u003cbr/\u003eThis is one small but important step in making sure Ruth
