But there are neither delivery facilities or doctors to check them. \u003cbr/\u003e\"There is no lady doctor here and there is no arrangement for delivery, we, health visitors, are working as lady doctor,\" Social health worker Parveen Akhtar said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe floods have killed about 1,500 people and inundated 1.7 (m) million acres (700-thousand hectares) of wheat, sugar cane and rice crops, raising the prospect of food shortages in the coming months in the already-poor nation. \u003cbr/\u003ePrices of food have risen sharply since the floods began.\u003cbr/\u003eAuthorities in Sindh province said more floods were likely over the next 24 to 48 hours. \u003cbr/\u003eAnne Patterson, the US ambassador to Pakistan, said on Tuesday that America had committed at least 87 (m) million US dollars in aid and expected to give more in the coming days. \u003cbr/\u003eMore US helicopters are expected to join the 19 already dispatched to help ferry stranded Pakistanis and deliver food and other items, US officials said. \u003cbr/\u003ePatterson said it was too soon to fully understand the scale of the disaster, including its impact on the Taliban and al-Qaida-led insurgency on Pakistani soil. \u003cbr/\u003eBut she downplayed concerns that Islamist extremists are winning flood victims' support through their own relief activities.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Frankly we are not too
