showdown with the Islamic movement.\u003cbr/\u003eFollowing a meeting with the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organisation) Executive Committee, Abbas said he would give Hamas until Thursday to agree to the plan or face a national referendum. \u003cbr/\u003eSenior Palestinian Official, Yasser Abed Rabbo, announced the PLO's endorsement of the document on Tuesday but said the referendum could still be avoided. \u003cbr/\u003e\"In the coming three days, before President Abbas declares the decree, there is a chance for the Hamas movement to change its position,\" he said.  \u003cbr/\u003eAbbas wants to hold the non-binding vote to put pressure on the Hamas-led government to accept the plan, which calls for a Palestinian state alongside Israel, implying recognition of the Jewish state. \u003cbr/\u003eBut acceptance of the proposal would signal a major concession by the Islamic group, which has killed hundreds of Israelis in its battle to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands and had countless of its activists and two previous leaders assassinated by Israel.\u003cbr/\u003eHamas officials welcomed the offer to extend an ongoing \"dialogue\" over the document but said
