It's part of the Very Young Composers program, a pioneering music program designed to...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eIn a quest to get children listening and enjoying classical musical, one elementary school in Colorado is creating and writing their own concert. \u003cbr/\u003eIt's part of the Very Young Composers program, a pioneering music program designed to inspire a love of music in children who might not otherwise attend performances.\u003cbr/\u003eAt this elementary school, the kids are creating music to an entirely new beat. \u003cbr/\u003eThe children at Cole Elementary School are learning to write their own score, and set it to music for their very own concert. \u003cbr/\u003eThey're part of the Very Young Composers program, putting their vivid imaginations down on paper.\u003cbr/\u003eRaelynn McCormack, a third grader, is working on a score that might surprise ordinary audiences:\u003cbr/\u003e\"We're doing a story about two princesses, and...two ninjas,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter plotting a story on paper, the students use a piano or drums to plunk out the notes. \u003cbr/\u003eProfessional musicians write down the music then play it in front of an audience.\u003cbr/\u003eIts goal is to bring music, dance and theatre to children who might not otherwise attend these kinds of performances. \u003cbr/\u003eCatherine Beeson is a professional musician with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and doesn't think preconceptions about the classical music world should stop young people getting involved. \u003cbr/\u003eShe says it's not \"highfalutin\", and thinks the program can change how the kids appreciate music. \u003cbr/\u003e\"A program like this can light a person on fire to be more involved as a listener, and that's the most I can really hope for is to just turn people on to the thing that I think is really cool,\" she says.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hands on program has now spread to other schools across the United States, and overseas, to countries far away as Japan, Spain and Finland.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hope is to light a spark in these children for a life-long love of music.\u003cbr/\u003eAP Television\u003cbr/\u003eDenver - 5 May 2014\u003cbr/\u003e1.
