It is about six kilometers...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eArabic/Nat \u003cbr/\u003eEgypt has revamped the entrance to it's most famous tourist attraction - the Pyramids on the Giza plateau. \u003cbr/\u003eThe new entrance, designed to accommodate increasing number of visitors, opens Wednesday. \u003cbr/\u003eIt is about six kilometers from the previous tourist attraction, and will be connected to a picnic area in the shadow of the pyramids.\u003cbr/\u003eA car park, a visitor's center, and a horse stable are still incomplete and will be new additions for tourists in the new year 2001.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, visitors can no longer pose for photos atop the giant stone blocks at the base of the pyramids. \u003cbr/\u003eThe 45-hundred-year-old royal tombs have been cordoned off to keep tourists from touching or damaging the stones.\u003cbr/\u003eThe new entrance will not be open to foreign tourists until the end of 2001, when other new facilities are completed.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (English)\u003cbr/\u003e\"The reason for making this new entrance at the Giza plateau is for the conservation of the site.
