The two dozen protestors, clad in anti-radiation suits...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eSpanish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eGreenpeace demonstrators laid siege to the U-S embassy in Mexico City on Wednesday to protest against a planned radioactive waste dump to be cited near the Texas border.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe two dozen protestors, clad in anti-radiation suits and masks, dumped green slime on a map of the U-S-Mexico border, claiming a waste dump would endanger the health of Mexicans. \u003cbr/\u003ePublic hearings on the location of the proposed dump will take place in Texas over the coming weeks, prior to a recommendation being lodged with state officials.\u003cbr/\u003eMembers of Greenpeace dumped green slime outside the U-S embassy in Mexico City on Wednesday to protest at the proposed dumping of radioactive waste close to the border with Texas.\u003cbr/\u003eAround two dozen environmental protestors smeared the substance, representing nuclear waste, over a map of the Mexico - Texas border. \u003cbr/\u003e\"No Radioactive Borders,\" read a banner raised in front of the embassy gates. \u003cbr/\u003eThe protestors, wearing anti radiation suits and Uncle Sam outfits, hope the protest will put pressure on the U-S government and the Texan authorities. \u003cbr/\u003eThe protest passed off peacefully   \u003cbr/\u003eGreenpeace claim the dump will pose a serious health threat to Mexicans living close to the Texan border\u003cbr/\u003eThe site is in Sierra Blanca, about 75 miles southeast of El Paso, Texas.     \u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish)\u003cbr/\u003e\"These are toxic wastes, radioactive waste, badly, erroneously catalogued as low level because they used to say that radioactive waste principally would come from Texas, Maine and Vermont, nuclear waste which, for example, the resins of the reactors which are produced in large quantities, contain radioactive elements which have a life span of hundreds of thousands of years. And the authorities, shall we say, do nothing more than stand vigil over projects of Sierra Blanca for a hundred years. After a hundred years, obviously nobody is responsible and the concrete containers, all these - they have carried out studies which tell us that they will be alright.
