With this objective we vow to reject and oppose the Asian Women's Fund.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPERCAPTION:  Gertrude Balisalisa General Secretary, Malaya Lolas\u003cbr/\u003eHistorians say about 200 thousand Asian women were  forced to work in military-run  brothels for  Japanese troops. \u003cbr/\u003eJapan's government denied any involvement with the wartime brothels until several years  ago.\u003cbr/\u003eThe government has refused to pay any compensation, saying that all war-related  claims were settled by postwar treaties.\u003cbr/\u003eInstead, it formed the Asian Women's Fund, a private fund financed by individual and  corporate donations to make payments to the women. \u003cbr/\u003eLila Pilipina coordinator Nelia Sancho says the group, which had 82 members  before  the defections,  continues to officially reject the Asian Women's  Fund as a \"final  solution\".\u003cbr/\u003eBut they do respect the individual decisions of women whether to accept money from it.\u003cbr/\u003eMembers of the new group are also against a recent  recommendation made by the  Asian Women's Fund to the Japanese government that it provide legal compensation to  comfort women victims from South\u003cbr/\u003eKorea and Taiwan, and give the Asian Women's fund to the Filipino victims.\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE:(English) \u003cbr/\u003e\"Why the discrimination?
