And we have that because of the urban nature of London so the development over the years is over the last 2000 years and then predominately in the last thirty years or so there's been building within the city limits of London has then revealed to us different burial grounds or areas that people have been buried in that we may no longer have known about or had records and that's how we now have this amazing collection of skeletons.\"\u003cbr/\u003e5. So when they made the coins, they threw away the copper waste and that's what turned her green. This child unfortunately suffered from congenital syphilis and so that meant that the mother had venereal syphilis and it was passed from mother to child.\"\u003cbr/\u003e8. Various City of London cemetery \u003cbr/\u003eA macabre exhibition has opened in London that displays dozens of skeletons recovered from redevelopment sites across the capital.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Wellcome Collection has selected a few of the 17,000 skeletons from the Museum of London's collection that spans sixteen centuries.\u003cbr/\u003eThrough careful forensic analysis, each skeleton reveals its own story, allowing fascinating insights into the times in which they lived and the health hazards of the day - from syphilis to smallpox and rickets.\u003cbr/\u003eConstruction workers in London are currently busy with redevelopment activity across the city.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever redevelopment often disturbs the graves of thousands of long deceased Londoners buried deep beneath the modern city. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Wellcome Collection in collaboration with the Museum of London have brought together a carefully selected array of some of the more interesting skeletons whose history spans several centuries.\u003cbr/\u003eJelena Bekvalac is the Research Osteologist at the Museum of London. She explains how they came to find so many skeletons.\u003cbr/\u003eBekvalac says that forensic analysis can reveal much about the circumstances in which these Londoners lived. \u003cbr/\u003eThis skeleton, she says, has unusually green teeth caused by the copper in the burial site.\u003cbr/\u003eAnother smaller skeleton is that of an eleven year old child who died suffering from congenital syphilis, contracted from it's mother. \u003cbr/\u003eThis skeleton reveals the social economic condition of many of the people who lived in poorer parts of the city, Bekvalac says.\u003cbr/\u003eFast forward a few centuries and the socio-economic condition of modern day east London has parallels to centuries gone by. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the furthest part of east London stands the City of London cemetery. \u003cbr/\u003eIn the mid 1850's parliament decreed that London burials should take place outside the city limits as space for burial sites was becoming increasingly scarce.\u003cbr/\u003eGary Burks is the current manager of the City of London cemetery and crematorium. \u003cbr/\u003eHe explains that London is now facing the same problems of space as it did 150 years ago. However the modern day solution is to re-use graves rather than to move them.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile that may not be an ideal solution for many, it will mean at least that the Londoners buried here will
