Wide exterior tilt down of St Pancras Renaissance hotel\u003cbr/\u003eThere are just over three hundred days to go to the Olympic Games 2012.\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of thousands of people are expected in London for the event. \u003cbr/\u003eFor those around five thousand dollars or more to spend on a hotel room each night, there''s plenty on offer at the luxury end of the market.\u003cbr/\u003eHow about this for a room with a view?\u003cbr/\u003eFrom the Monet suite in the newly refurbished Savoy Hotel visitors can revel in some of London''s most famous landmarks - including Big Ben, the London Eye and the South Bank that nestles alongside the Thames.\u003cbr/\u003eFrench impressionist Claude Monet stayed in the hotel several times and was inspired by the views. \u003cbr/\u003eIt can cost up to ï¿½3,000 a night in the Monet Suite.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Monet hasn''t been the hotel''s only famous guest - it was a favourite with Britain''s wartime prime minister, Winston Churchill, who had a suite reserved for him throughout World War II.\u003cbr/\u003eHollywood legend Marlene Dietrich also stayed in the Savoy, and it''s here the celebrated British actor, Laurence Olivier met his wife, actress Vivien Leigh, in the hotel''s restaurant.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Savoy, close to London''s Trafalgar Square and theatreland, was built in 1889 by a theatre owner, inspired by the luxury hotels he visited on tour in the USA.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was London''s first hotel to be fitted with electric lighting, lifts and ensuite bathrooms. \u003cbr/\u003eSimon Gilkes, the Savoy''s sales director says: \"The Savoy is 122 years old, it''s just reopened after a three year restoration that cost ï¿½220 million. We have 268 rooms, including our most expensive which is the Royal Suite that sells for ï¿½10,000 (approx. $16,000 USD) a night.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Savoy was closed in December 2007 and builders stripped it back to the bare bones, uncovering parts of the hotel untouched in 120 years. New sprinkler systems and wiring were added, taking the hotel up to 21st Century standards.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Savoy prefers to call it a restoration and not a refurbishment because much of the original building was maintained. Many of the iconic features - such as the front entrance with the gold statue and the 1920s American cocktail bar - have remained the same.\u003cbr/\u003e\"During the restoration we commissioned just over 51,000 pieces of bespoke Wedgwood china, over 49,000 glasses and during the course of the year we get through over three tonnes of chocolate,\" says Gilkes.\u003cbr/\u003eAlthough the summer months are always busy for London''s hotels, the Savoy is calling 2012 the \"perfect summer\" with Royal Ascot, the Wimbledon tennis championships, Farnborough air show and the Olympics all occurring back-to-back.\u003cbr/\u003eSo with the spotlight firmly on the capital, what is the Savoy expecting?\u003cbr/\u003eGilkes says: \"I think the Savoy will be ordering in lots of extra chocolate, tea, champagne. We''ll be fully staffed and we expect the hotel to be running at full capacity for the duration of the Olympics, in terms of rooms, restaurants, but also in our event spaces as well.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe Ritz hotel in Green Park, close to Buckingham Palace, is one of the world''s most famous hotels, opened by the legendary Swiss hotelier Cesar Ritz in 1906. \u003cbr/\u003eAlmost as famous as the hotel, is the afternoon teas it serves in the Palm Court.\u003cbr/\u003eA waiter dressed immaculately in a tuxedo serves a champagne tea in the neo-classical restaurant.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Ritz prides itself on service. The silver gleams. The tables are laid with rich cotton cloths, the opulent china is edged in gold, and the scones ooze strawberry jam and thick, clotted Devonshire cream.  \u003cbr/\u003e17 different types of tea are on offer to wash down the freshly cut smoked salmon and cucumber sandwiches. \u003cbr/\u003eThe traditional afternoon tea costs ï¿½40.00 ($61 USD) per person. The champagne afternoon tea, which includes a glass of bubbly, costs ï¿½51.00 ($82 USD) per person. But if you want to really push the boat out for a birthday celebration then an afternoon tea with cake and champagne costs ï¿½62 ( $100 USD) a head. \u003cbr/\u003eStephen Boxhall, managing director at the Ritz, says: \"The Ritz is a byword for setting the standards as far as service is concerned. We''re greatly looking forward to it, welcoming a lot of guests and we''ve got a lot of events as well, that the Ritz will be having throughout that time.\"\u003cbr/\u003eWith the Olympic rings hanging over St Pancras station arrivals hall, the newly opened Renaissance Hotel will be the first sight for many international visitors arriving in London by the Eurostar rail link.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hotel - although closed for much of its history - is older than both the Savoy and the Ritz, opening in 1873.\u003cbr/\u003eThis grade I listed building is also one of London''s most impressive buildings.\u003cbr/\u003eThe building was commissioned by Midland Rail - the largest railway in England in the mid 19th Century. Sitting adjacent to its rival - Kings Cross station - Midland Rail wanted to show off and create a building demonstrating its power, strength and ambition.\u003cbr/\u003eArchitect George Gilbert Scott''s red brick, neo-Gothic building was originally intended to be built in Whitehall - opposite the gothic Westminster parliament buildings.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter failing to secure the Whitehall contract, Gilbert Scott decided his plans could be converted into the most extravagant hotel ever seen in Europe.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hotel closed in 1935 because its outdated design could no longer compete with more modern hotels - none of the rooms were ensuite and chamber pots had to be emptied by hand.\u003cbr/\u003eIn March 21, 2011 the hotel reopened - 138 years after if first welcomed guests - and with rooms overlooking the famous Barlow train shed at the station.\u003cbr/\u003eThe St Pancras Renaissance has special reason to consider itself central London''s top Olympic hotel. \u003cbr/\u003eFrom the platform downstairs, the Javelin shuttle train will connect St Pancras with the Olympic site in Stratford east London.\u003cbr/\u003eEight high-speed shuttle trains will run take 25,000 passengers every hour from St Pancras to the heart of the games.\u003cbr/\u003eHarry Handelsman, owner of the St Pancras Renaissance, says: \"The Olympics are coming in 2012, the fact of our location where we are, we are literally seven minutes away from the Olympics, from the centre. So if you take the train - the Javelin - which is going to run on a loop, on a constant basis, you can leave central London - which this location is - and you can arrive in Stratford within seven minutes so it''s the fastest and the most convenient method of getting there.\"\u003cbr/\u003eHandelsman oversaw much of the ï¿½200 million restoration work at the hotel and wanted to authentically restore the hotel to its former glory - and as much as possible using the same techniques.\u003cbr/\u003eThe team was also working within the strict guidelines set out by English Heritage, who wanted the building maintained as authentically as possible.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than 600 artists worked on the restoration, repainting murals and ceiling panels.\u003cbr/\u003eGilbert Scott is best known for his ecclesiastical buildings and this really shows in the hotel, for example these great cathedral-like windows and the stone carvings.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen the hotel first opened a room would cost around 14 shillings a night - these days ï¿½3,000 - ï¿½10,000 is necessary to secure one of the Renaissance''s top suites.\u003cbr/\u003eAll three luxury hotels are expecting to sell out during
