Cutaway of the computer\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of Zimbabweans queued for days in front of the Department of Home Affairs in Pretoria trying to get the necessary papers to apply for refugee status in South Africa. \u003cbr/\u003eAs the political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe deepens, as many as 100-thousand Zimbabwean citizens are fleeing to South Africa each month.  \u003cbr/\u003eAn improvised camp was set up in front of the Home Affairs Department in the outskirts of Pretoria and AP Television filmed hundreds of men and women waiting around under the sun hoping to enter the building.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the man waiting told Ap Television why South Africa was their main destination.\u003cbr/\u003e\" Places like Botswana because I haven't seen anyone getting asylum in Botswana, so people run to South Africa because they know they can get refugee status here in South Africa, so we are too many and the pace the are taking , and the days they are giving us .. they are very few maybe they could have said: a week for Zimbabweans,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eBut South African authorities have repeatedly said they cannot give refugee status to Zimbabweans who cross the border into South Africa\u003cbr/\u003eThe South African government claims that the Zimbabweans streaming into South Africa are not refugees as they are not facing persecution in their own country.\u003cbr/\u003eIn less that a decade, Zimbabwe has transform itself from one of Africa's most stable nations to one of its poorest and most chaotic. \u003cbr/\u003eZimbabwe's official inflation is given as 4,500 percent, the highest in the world, although independent estimates put it closer to 9,000 percent.\u003cbr/\u003ePresident Robert Mugabe rejects criticism of his economic policies blames the economic meltdown on Western economic sanctions and erratic rains.\u003cbr/\u003eTo one of the many  Zimbabweans awaiting his chance in Pretoria the only solution seems to be getting ride of Mugabe. \u003cbr/\u003e\" What I like ,what I will like see happening in Zimbabwe, I will like see Mugabe go first, by the ballot or by barrel of the gun, whatever needs to be done to take Mugabe away.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMost of them pay truck drivers to smuggle them into South Africa; others cross legally and let their visas expire. \u003cbr/\u003eA few enter via neighbouring countries such as Botswana or Mozambique leading to mounting concerns that the region will be swamped with destitute refugees.\u003cbr/\u003eZambian immigration authorities recently reported that the number of Zimbabweans crossing into Zambia at the southern border city of Livingstone had risen from 60 to 1,000 persons a day, and that they feared the influx threatened security.\u003cbr/\u003eBut most choose to leave Zimbabwe by crossing the crocodile-infested Limpopo River and entering through holes in the long, poorly patrolled border fence, often paying exorbitant fees to guides\u003cbr/\u003eThe majority of the fleeing Zimbabweans are men but an increasing number are women and orphans.   \u003cbr/\u003eIn Johannesburg, the Methodist Church has opened its doors to Zimbabweans pouring into the country. \u003cbr/\u003eBishop Paul Verryn's church, tucked away next to the High Court in the heart of the city, has become a centre of refuge for over 1,000 Zimbabweans lucky enough to find a safe place to sleep there.\u003cbr/\u003eNew arrivals are making their way to the church at a rate of 20-30 a day. \u003cbr/\u003eShylet Chakanetsa, 18, paid a truck driver to bring her from Zimbabwe to South Africa.   \u003cbr/\u003eShe and three other young women were hidden under plastic bags and other baggage in a trailer attached as the truck entered South Africa through the northern Beitbridge border post.\u003cbr/\u003e\" Well some say they could come through the fence, I don't know where it is, but we were scared,  just had to pay the driver. We didn't want to go that way because some say they are cases being raped and so on and that's so risky,\" she says, a hand gently stroking her baby girl wrapped in a bright yellow blanket next to her.\u003cbr/\u003eA veteran of the anti-apartheid struggle, Verryn is one of the few who recognises that the increasing number of Zimbabweans on the streets of Johannesburg is a problem that can no longer be ignored. \u003cbr/\u003e\" You know it has been a fairly... each person who comes through the doors of his church _ about 3,500 people in the last 18 months.\u003cbr/\u003eHe takes down a thorough set of personal details as well as contact information for relatives and explains the process of applying for asylum, a starting point for all refugees.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think what the South African government might have to consider is ways in which the
