Wide of Karachi\u003cbr/\u003eOne couple in Pakistan - both of whom have AIDS - appear to be leading the way in \"positive marriages\".\u003cbr/\u003eIt's a big step forward in a traditional country where there's a huge stigma attached to both HIV and AIDS.\u003cbr/\u003eRubina Naz arriving for a pre-wedding celebration with friends. \u003cbr/\u003eDressed in a formal yellow outfit she's shyly veiled, while her companions sing to a drum beat traditional wedding songs.\u003cbr/\u003eRubina's friends apply henna on her hands - the flowery designs are traditional - but this is no traditional bride in a conservative Islamic country.\u003cbr/\u003eShe's taking part in what's been called a \"Positive Marriage,\" by Doctor Saleem Azam.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says the wedding is an historical social event aimed at breaking social taboos.\u003cbr/\u003eBoth the bride and groom have AIDS. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to UNAIDS/WHO estimates, between 68 thousand and 150 000 adults aged 15 and over are living with HIV or AIDS in Pakistan. \u003cbr/\u003eBecause of the social stigma in Pakistan many with HIV or AIDS are abandoned by their friends and relatives.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This wedding is something very unusual in an environment where no one is willing to come out publicly saying 'yes I am infected with HIV AIDS',\" Azam says.\u003cbr/\u003eHis organisation works towards rehabilitating HIV and AIDS patients.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says if any male or female is found infected with HIV, it is generally believed that he or she might have committed adultery or anal sex, which go against the Muslim faith.\u003cbr/\u003eRubina became HIV positive because of her husband - a drug addict - who passed the virus on during sex.\u003cbr/\u003eShe gave birth to four normal and healthy children and never knew her husband was infected until he fell ill and was diagonsed with AIDS. He died a couple of years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eAbout a year back Rubina started losing weight and feeling sick. Medical examinations revealed that she was infected with the HIV virus. \u003cbr/\u003eThe news led to her becoming a social outcast until she was introduced to the Pakistan Society, a rehabilitation centre for drug users as well as HIV infected people.\u003cbr/\u003eHere she encountered Mohammad Iqbal, a former heroin addict, who now has AIDS.\u003cbr/\u003eHe's managed to give up heroin and is working as an employee at the society's office.\u003cbr/\u003eHe says he's getting married to Rubina because he loves her and wants to care for her family.\u003cbr/\u003eRubina, who is also suffering from tuberculosis, appears more determined to live a full life, regardless of how precarious her life is.\u003cbr/\u003eThe marriage, in the central district of Karachi, attracted a great deal of attention from people passing by, who joined the guests, mostly HIV infected friends, dancing outside the marriage hall in celebration.\u003cbr/\u003eAttired in a luxurious bridal green dress, studded with elegant gold embroidery, Rubina was seen off by her bridesmaids and flower girls with a few members of her family.\u003cbr/\u003eThe feeling of the day can best be summed up bu Rana Asif Habib,
