Wide shot of Bush and Abdullah\u003cbr/\u003eA United States Senate hearing in Washington discussed on Thursday the aftermath of any possible American military action against Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eThe committee held a second day of hearings that examine whether an attack on Iraq is necessary and what the consequences of such actions would be. Thursday's session examined the possible aftermath in Iraq if the United States were to succeed in driving Iraqi President Saddam Hussein from power.\u003cbr/\u003eCommittee chairman, senator Joseph Biden warned the hearing that the US cannot afford to replace a despot with chaos. He said the people of Iraq, the region and the United States need assurances that a regime change would be of benefit to the country.\u003cbr/\u003eFormer US Secretary of Defence under President Ronald Reagan, Caspar Weinberger, told the hearing that opposition to plans to topple Saddam Hussein were caused by a fear that the US would not stay and finish the job. \u003cbr/\u003eFormer National Security Adviser under Bill Clinton, Sandy Berger, said the Bush administration needs to show the international community that it is necessary to remove the Iraqi leader from power. But he said if the US administration was not able to form an international coalition against Saddam Hussein, then it would run the risk of paying the total cost of any military operation itself.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile at the Whitehouse, US President George Bush discussed the matter with King Abdullah of Jordan . \u003cbr/\u003eKing Abdullah has said that any idea of attacking Baghdad to topple President Saddam Hussein is 'somewhat ludicrous'. \u003cbr/\u003eBut Bush was adamant that he hadn't changed his position on Iraq. Bush said Saddam Hussein was a poisoner of his own people, and claimed that he was bent on acquiring weapons of mass destruction.
