Wide of people walking in street\u003cbr/\u003eUkrainian authorities held talks on Thursday with International Monetary Fund officials to seek help in stabilising its battered banking sector and ailing currency, hit hard by the global financial crisis.\u003cbr/\u003eA spokeswoman for Ukraine's National Bank said the IMF will assess the relief measures proposed by the government so far and consider extending a loan.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile financial regulators took further steps to revive the economy and financial sector, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko vowed the country will weather the crisis.\u003cbr/\u003eThe National Bank, however, was forced to impose a set of restrictions on deposit withdrawals and lending after worried savers rushed to empty their savings accounts, stripping the banking system of more than 1.3 (b) billion US dollars, according to government figures.\u003cbr/\u003eKiev resident, Maria said she wasn't worried and added that she trusted the government not to let the banks collapse. \u003cbr/\u003eAnother Kiev resident, Nikolai, said he recalled when finances were worse and a loaf of bread \"cost a million.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThe government, which is in the midst of an escalating political crisis, is struggling in the face of the world financial meltdown, as investments flee emerging markets and orders drop for the country's chief export commodity, steel.\u003cbr/\u003eThe authorities also had to rescue two key banks and battle a sharp fall in the hryvna currency as the stock market remained in a free fall.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile, credit rating agency Standard and Poor's put Ukraine's foreign currency and local currency sovereign ratings on creditwatch with negative implications, citing a \"deteriorating economic situation.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe National Bank said it was considering easing some restrictions on the banking sector in a bid to support the other parts of the economy, including exporters.\u003cbr/\u003eThe main stock exchange, the PFTS, dropped in early trading on Thursday after losing a further five percent on
