traditionally heavy users of cell phones -  who first became suspicious when they found that they couldn't contact their news rooms while in church.\u003cbr/\u003eTo reporters, keeping in touch with their editors while covering weddings and christenings of the rich and famous is as important as, well, the ceremonies themselves.\u003cbr/\u003eBut at four churches in Monterrey, Mexico they found they couldn't get a peep out of their mobile phones.\u003cbr/\u003eNo one could ring in, and they couldn't ring out.\u003cbr/\u003eBeing reporters, they investigated the phenomenon and discovered, to their astonishment, that they were being silenced by the church.\u003cbr/\u003eIt wasn't spiritual powers that were being used to gag them, but something from the very frontier of modern technology.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was these paperback-sized boxes that were preventing their phones from working.\u003cbr/\u003eThe boxes, which look like smoke or burglar alarms are, in fact, cell phone blockers.\u003cbr/\u003eThey're Israeli-made and used throughout Israel by the military for counter-intelligence.\u003cbr/\u003eSo, was the ringing of mobile phones so annoying that it required Israeli military technology to stop it?\u003cbr/\u003eSOUNDBITE: (Spanish)\u003cbr/\u003e\"Sadly, this has happened because Christians taking part in mass were not separating themselves from the outside. So when they are taking part in mass, the eucharist is interrupted by the sound of mobile phones. People would get very annoyed.
