He, for me, it's kind of the ultimate outsider character because the hands are just a metaphor for anything, they can mean anything, they can be the kid at school who is a bit different who everyone makes fun of or they can be more serious, they can be racial things, they can be sexuality things, all sorts of things you could apply to it while you are watching it and I thought 'well that's quite interesting', because as members of the audience you need to connect with your leading character and I think everyone can in some way with this character. Performance clip - 'Edward Scissorhands' ballet\u003cbr/\u003eA new, ambitious dance version of Tim Burton's film 'Edward Scissorhands' opened at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, London, on Tuesday after a week of well received previews.\u003cbr/\u003eThe ballet is the latest from writer, director and choreographer Matthew Bourne, the man behind the Tony winning all male version of 'Swan Lake' and the choreography of the current West End version of 'Mary Poppins,' which is due to transfer to Broadway in November 2006.\u003cbr/\u003e'Edward Scissorhands' follows the fortunes of a character turned from a robot into a man by a well meaning inventor, who dies before finishing his task, leaving Edward with scissors instead of hands.\u003cbr/\u003eThe ballet goes for Hollywood style spectacle, with a blockbuster set, a large cast and dance that focuses on Edward's distinctive flying fingers - the razor sharp digits that make him both loved and feared.\u003cbr/\u003eSam Archer and Richard Winsor share the lead role, played by Johnny Depp to memorable effect in the movie.\u003cbr/\u003eThe dancers admit they watched the film over and over for inspiration, but also drew from the silent comedy of Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton at Bourne's suggestion.\u003cbr/\u003eThere are of course differences between the film and the stage version.  Not least, the ballet offers whole new scenes looking at how Edward has come to be the way he is.\u003cbr/\u003eThe blades themselves look fearsome, but are of course not made of steel.  Instead, Archer and Winsor dance with their hands attatched to plastic-coated fibre with a rod through the middle. \u003cbr/\u003eTim Burton, who gave permission for the ballet, says he can't wait to
