There is a button that simply allows you to take action and let president Bashir know you are watching the village. Close shot of computer screen showing two displaced children brushing their teeth (satellite images from Darfur)\u003cbr/\u003eIn a new effort to alleviate the crisis in Darfur, Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) is using satellite cameras to monitor 12 villages they say are vulnerable to attack.\u003cbr/\u003eOrganisers plan to post the high-resolution images on the internet for public viewing. This is not the first time such technology is being used, but now the process is more advanced, enabling anyone to access them.\u003cbr/\u003eIn an interview with AP Television, Ariela Blatter, the Director of Crisis Prevention and Response for AIUSA, explained: \"The satellite can see an object the size of two feet and certainly we can now take pictures on a regular basis, so we're using the satellite technology to monitor villages that are at risk on the ground in the war-torn Darfur region.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"With that technology we can see troop movements; we can see displaced persons; we can see scorched earth campaigns; we can see targeted attacks against individual houses,\" she added.\u003cbr/\u003eSince violence broke out between ethnic African rebels and the pro-government janjaweed militia in 2003, officials say over 200,000 people have been killed and 2.5 million (m) forced to flee their homes.\u003cbr/\u003eThe technology allows viewers to see before and after pictures, showing villages and vegetation that have been destroyed.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe organisation hopes the images will compel the public to act by sending a strong message to Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There is a button that simply allows you to take action and let president Bashir know you are watching the village,\" said Blatter. \"You can select the picture of that particular village on that particular day to send to him and we have also copied his consular offices around the world to alert them of this fact as well.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe site also includes a video of refugees and can be accessed by going to www.eyeondarfur.org. \u003cbr/\u003eIt will launch on Wednesday in conjunction with a presentation at the Fifth International Symposium on Digital Earth being head at the University of California in Berkeley.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe campaign also includes involvement from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, which provided technical assistance and the Save Darfur Coalition, which is is funding the project.
