Tuesday's landslide, into a coffin -- the country's President, Alberto Fujimori.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was here Wednesday, inspecting the site of the disaster, in Tamburco district, 900 kilometers (560 miles) southeast of the capital, Lima.\u003cbr/\u003eHeavy rains are slowing the grisly task of pulling bodies from the mud and rocks.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Tuesday, the side of a hill saturated by rain gave way and roared down onto two sleeping mountain villages in the district.  \u003cbr/\u003ePeople, homes, livestock and crops were swept away.\u003cbr/\u003eSurvivors awaited the arrival of much-needed food and medicine.\u003cbr/\u003eBut back in the capital, possibly some good news to counterbalance the terrible disaster in the southeast.\u003cbr/\u003eA breakthrough in the hostage crisis at the Japanese ambassador's residence?\u003cbr/\u003eNo-one's saying more, but Thursday the man who led the rebel take-over of the residence held direct talks with government negotiators outside the walled compound for the first time since last year's hostage-taking.\u003cbr/\u003eHere, Roman Catholic archbishop Juan Luis Cipriani and other members of a commission overseeing the talks, are seen walking into a building just opposite the compound.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd this white Red Cross car is driving the M-R-T-A leader Nestor Cerpa Cartolini and his  number two, Rolly Rojas, in for the talks with the government negotiator.\u003cbr/\u003eThey lasted more than three hours.\u003cbr/\u003eThose who had sat in on the talks weren't saying too much
