alleged use of beef flavouring in the chain's American french fries.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Hindu fundamentalist group Shiv Sena carried out its threat to protest outside the corporate office of McDonald's India after newspapers reported on a lawsuit filed in the United States.\u003cbr/\u003eThe lawsuit for unspecified damages was filed on Tuesday in Seattle (King County Superior Court) on behalf of two Hindus who don't eat meat and one non-Hindu vegetarian.\u003cbr/\u003eIt accuses McDonald's of using beef fat in the preparation of french fries in the US, more than a decade after the fast food chain said it would cook its fries in vegetable oil.\u003cbr/\u003eIndia's Hindus, who make up 85 percent of the population, worship the cow and most of them are vegetarians, although with rapid urbanisation and migration, food habits are changing and more Indians have become meat eaters.\u003cbr/\u003eFollowing the lawsuit, McDonald's India issued a statement saying the products it served in the country did not contain any beef or animal extracts, of whatsoever kind.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the Shiv Sena is sceptical of the McDonald's' assurance, saying the company had made similar promises in the United States 10 years ago, but apparently continued to use beef flavouring.\u003cbr/\u003eMcDonald's announced in 1990 that its US restaurants would no longer use beef fat in making french fries and that only pure vegetable oil would be used.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fast-food chain on Wednesday released a statement saying it had never claimed the fries it sells in the United States were fully vegetarian. \u003cbr/\u003eMcDonald's India opened its first restaurant in India in October 1996 and now has 28 outlets in New Delhi, Mumbay, Pune, Jaipur and on the Delhi-Agra highway.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Shiv Sena opposes the growing influence of Western culture on Indian society, including Valentine's Day celebrations, the wearing of jeans and honeymoons for
