Wide of children dancing with UN soldiers\u003cbr/\u003eUN peacekeepers and Haitian police seized the last remaining gang stronghold in Haiti's largest slum on Wednesday, giving the international force sole authority over the lawless area for the first time, a UN military official said.\u003cbr/\u003eNo shots were fired as scores of UN troops entered the seaside slum of Cite Soleil in armoured vehicles and on foot, the latest in a series of military crackdowns aimed at stabilising the impoverished and divided Caribbean nation.\u003cbr/\u003eThe soldiers took over the gritty Bois Neuf quarter, a base for armed gangs blamed for a wave of kidnappings and killings. Seven suspected gang members were arrested in the raid but their leader, known as Beloney, managed to escape.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was the last gang stronghold in Cite Soleil not occupied by the nine thousand-strong UN force. \u003cbr/\u003eColonel Cl嚙線dio Magno Barroso who is in command of the Brazilian troops in Haiti said that Cite du Soleil was now 100 per cent under control.\u003cbr/\u003eBarroso told The Associated Press that the area was under control as bulldozers pushed dirt and rocks into murky canals dug by gangs to keep out UN armoured vehicles. \u003cbr/\u003eHe added that the troops could now carry out security checks without maximum protection.\u003cbr/\u003eBut a UN spokesperson gave a more conservative assessment, saying only that peacekeepers had established a presence everywhere that gangs had controlled, but do not have full control over the entire slum.\u003cbr/\u003eHaitian broadcaster Radio Metropole reported on Wednesday that several Cite Soleil gangsters had taken refuge in a rural town outside the northwestern city of Gonaives. \u003cbr/\u003eThe report said the gang members were seen wearing camouflage uniforms similar to those of Haiti's SWAT (Special Weapons And Tactics)-style police squad.\u003cbr/\u003eA Haiti police spokesman told Radio Metropole that authorities were pursuing the gang members.\u003cbr/\u003eWednesday's raid coincided with the third anniversary of the uprising that toppled former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Haiti's first democratically elected leader. Aristide went into exile in South Africa.\u003cbr/\u003eResidents of Cite Soleil, many of whom still support Aristide, appeared to welcome the UN blue-helmeted force, smiling and chatting with soldiers guarding a plaza lined with brightly painted murals of slain gang leaders.  \u003cbr/\u003eIn past UN raids, peacekeepers have been accused of firing indiscriminately within the densely
