Herdsman and his cattle. \u003cbr/\u003eA severe drought in Kenya is having a devastating effect on people and animals, as rivers dry up and grasslands shrivel in parched game reserves.\u003cbr/\u003eKenya has always had droughts , but rarely this serious, forcing thousands of Maasai herdsmen to invade the country's national parks in search of scarce grazing grounds -  sometimes with devastating consequences.\u003cbr/\u003eThis is Nairobi National Park. \u003cbr/\u003eThe rays of light reflect on Tenke Ole Mukeyo, a Maasai herdsman sneaking his cattle illegally into the relatively lush area.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Maasai herdsmen are in search of pastures - but behind them they leace a trail of cattle carcasses.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We are faced with a big problem so we have to take our cattle into the park because our cattle are dying of hunger and we come from very far. Only God can help us.\" says Tenke Ole Mukeyo, a Maasai herdsman.\u003cbr/\u003eThe cattle are becoming increasingly brazen, grazing alongside zebras, buffaloes and antelopes in the vast savannah of the park.\u003cbr/\u003eMaasai herders are aware that it is illegal to graze their cattle in the park, and when caught by rangers from the Kenya Wildlife Service conflict often arises.\u003cbr/\u003eGladys Seita last saw her husband early one morning in September as he led his cattle into the park. \u003cbr/\u003eShe believes that he was killed by the rangers while grazing his cattle in the park.\u003cbr/\u003eShe is now a widow. Her two sons are fatherless.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think it is the KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service) rangers who killed him because two days before his death the rangers came and threatened to kill my husband , then we found him dead in the park all because of taking his cattle to graze in the park.\" explains a grief stricken Gladys.\u003cbr/\u003eNo solid evidence has been linked to the killing of her husband, Daniel Saitaga Lisian, who was found dead in a stream in the park due to a blow to the head.\u003cbr/\u003eBut according to a senior warden with the Kenya Wildlife Service, they are investigating. \u003cbr/\u003eEach day the Maasai lead their cattle further into the Nairobi National Park, reducing habitat for wildlife and forcing herds of zebra, wildebeest and buffalo to move further west, close to the main gate and very close to the bustling city.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The main impact of the drought on the Nairobi National Park is the invasion of the park by (herders) pastoralists bringing their livestock into the park causing overgrazing and at times also livestock transmitting diseases to wildlife.\" says Michael Wanjau, the Senior Warden of Nairobi National Park.\u003cbr/\u003eThe shared grazing grounds have also led to the introduction of tick-bourne diseases such as foot and mouth and other more severe cases such as Anthrax.\u003cbr/\u003eTwo rhinos are reported as having died in June in the Nairobi National Park due to Anthrax.\u003cbr/\u003e\"In Nairobi National Park we have seen wildlife dying of foot and mouth disease and Anthrax. Raila Odinga last month warned of a \"catastrophe\" if seasonal rains don't come in October and November. \u003cbr/\u003eKenya's grain harvest is expected to be 28 percent lower. \u003cbr/\u003eFood prices have jumped by as much as 130 percent leading to a growing hungry population looking for cheaper buys along the streets.\u003cbr/\u003eSome Maasai herdsmen have began leading their cattle into the city resulting in a growing threat of cow to human disease transmission, as more people in the country suffer from malnutrition and hundreds of thousands of cattle continue to
