He father was legendary jazz pianist Joe Albany.\u003cbr/\u003eFlea also grew up in LA in the 1970's, near where Amy lived and had a similar home life.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I also grew up in the 70's with a jazz musician, drug addict parent like blocks from Amy in a really similar situation,\" explained Flea at the film's Sundance premiere Sunday (19 JAN. 2014.) \"So when I read the script it just blew my mind, you know? I mean I had met Amy real briefly because as it turned out we had this real like parallel existence. We were both sort of on the punk rock scene too in the late 70's, early 80's in LA. But we both came from these same situations and I read the script and I just couldn't believe it, you know, it was like, 'Wow, someone with my life' you know?\"\u003cbr/\u003eElle Fanning plays Amy-Jo Albany as a young girl in the movie. Her father is played by John Hawkes. Glenn Close plays her grandmother.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's an amazing story,\" said Close. \"A little girl who sometimes she'd eat the lime flavored shaving cream because there was no food in the house. Both her parents were junkies. And it's survival and love even in those circumstances.\"\u003cbr/\u003eClose said she was happy the film was a part of Sundance because she supports what the festival stands for. \u003cbr/\u003e\"There's a wonderful spirit here of people wanting people to succeed, wanting to hear their stories, you know? There's a great spirit that Bob Redford has kept alive that he's never let -- even though there's all the fringe stuff, all the shwag and all the parties the basic thing about Sundance is that it's a non-profit institution that helps new voices and for him the artist has always come first. \u003cbr/\u003eBesides Sundance, Flea is also getting ready to perform in the Super Bowl halftime show with Bruno Mars.
