Previous recipients of the award include Sir Michael Caine, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Martin Scorsese. The BAFTA chairman in LA, Gary Dartnall declared that Grant was chosen for the award as: 'his talent and keen intelligence has distinguished him as one of the best and brightest in contemporary cinema.'\u003cbr/\u003eThe actor himself seemed in a fine mood, declaring himself 'cockahoop' about winning the award.
