Various of Tibetan National Martyrs Memorial \u003cbr/\u003eTibetan exiles from around the world continued their meeting in India on Thursday to discuss how to respond to dozens of self-immolations by Tibetans and find new ways to increase global support for their people's cause.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than 400 delegates have been gathering in the Indian hill town of Dharmsala to attend the second Special General Meeting of Tibetans.\u003cbr/\u003eThe first meeting in 2008 followed protests in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa that resulted in a brutal crackdown by the Chinese government.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the main temple in Dharmsala, Tibetans offer prayers every day for those who have set themselves on fire to protest against what they see as Beijing's heavy-handed rule in Tibet. \u003cbr/\u003eThe self-proclaimed Tibetan government-in-exile says 41 Tibetans have died from 51 attempts at self-immolation since March 2009. \u003cbr/\u003eIt considers them a sign of the suffering Tibetans feel under China's repressive policies. \u003cbr/\u003eChina claims the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, encourages the suicide attempts.\u003cbr/\u003eThe spiritual leader has never publicly supported or denounced the acts. \u003cbr/\u003eAmong the delegates attending the second Special General Meeting of Tibetans is Tsering Sangpo, from Nepal.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the Tibetans must decide how respond to the wave of immolations not just as an individual but as a community. \u003cbr/\u003e\"From the international level or from the community level and the most important is as a Tibetan in exile, what we as individual have to do, this is the one we have to discuss. And then all together, then what we can do united for the cause of this urgent situation,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003e63-year old Tibetan exile, Sonam Dhargyal, an insurance agent by profession, has lived in Dharmsala for more than three decades.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said China's crackdown is so oppressive in the Tibetan areas, they have no other way to voice their protests.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Since 2008, forty one people have died by self-immolation. This is due to just suppression by the Chinese government. They have no alternative way to live. Better to self-immolate,\" Dhargyal said.\u003cbr/\u003eDharmsala has been the Dalai Lama's home since he fled Tibet after a failed uprising against Chinese rule in 1959. \u003cbr/\u003eIt is also home to more than 150-thousand Tibetan exiles.\u003cbr/\u003eChina claims Tibet has always been Chinese territory and accuses the Dalai Lama of seeking independence. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Dalai Lama maintains that he only wants greater autonomy for the region even though many Tibetans say the Himalayan region was independent for much of its history. \u003cbr/\u003eWhile the older generation of exiles is in favour of talks with the Chinese and a middle-path to peace, some among the younger exiles say the campaign for Tibet's independence must continue to be supported. \u003cbr/\u003e\"As far as self immolation is concerned I think this is an (issue) which ignites the Tibetan patriotism and nationalism,\" said student Thunten Choephel, \"We should keep the fire alive.\" \u003cbr/\u003eThe delegates involved in the discussions this week are expected to make final proposals and recommendations on Friday. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Dalai Lama, the supreme spiritual leader for Tibetan Buddhists, is not participating in the discussions but will attend a prayer for his long life to be offered on Friday. \u003cbr/\u003eApart from discussing how the Tibetan community across the world should
