Various of Greenpeace protestors being arrested\u003cbr/\u003eAn annual battle over commercial whaling ended on Tuesday in the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, with Japan and other pro-whaling nations edging closer toward their goal of resuming commercial hunts, amid accusations of vote-buying and bullying from both sides of the debate.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 70-nation International Whaling Commission (IWC) had gathered to decide whether to repeal or dilute a ban on commercial whaling, with pro-whaling nations managing to pass by a single vote a resolution to support ending the 20-year-old ban.\u003cbr/\u003eJapan also planned a meeting of pro-whaling nations early next year (2007) to help consolidate its gains and move toward gaining the 75 percent majority necessary to overturn the 1986 ban.\u003cbr/\u003eSusan Lieberman from the World Wildlife Fund encouraged governments to \"wake up and act,\" to prevent the ban being lifted.\u003cbr/\u003e\"More importantly people should act,\" she said, \"People should contact their governments.\"\u003cbr/\u003eEarlier on Tuesday, ten protestors from the environmental group Greenpeace were arrested as they staged a protest outside the conference venue.\u003cbr/\u003eAccording to officials, the protestors entered the country illegally and staged a peaceful protest without requesting prior authorisation.\u003cbr/\u003eJapan's IWC delegate, Joji Morishita, said he would like to \"encourage\" organisers of these protests \"to graduate from that old standing mould of IWC confrontation\". \u003cbr/\u003e\"We should be able to talk to each other\", Morishita said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe simple majority, which Morishita and his allies gained for the first time since the whaling ban, lets pro-whaling nations chip away at restrictions and shift the IWC's focus away from conservation.\u003cbr/\u003eJapan and Iceland hunt whales under the auspices of scientific research, and Norway ignores the
