Rumsfeld and Gade shaking hands\u003cbr/\u003eUS Secretary of Defence, Donald Rumsfeld, met his Danish counterpart at the Pentagon on Monday, for discussions on the situation in Iraq and continued threat of terrorism to both countries.\u003cbr/\u003eAfterwards, at a joint news conference, Rumsfeld was questioned on the fate of Ahmad Chalabi, the former leader in post-war Iraq who had strong ties to the United States and is now accused of counterfeiting. \u003cbr/\u003eRumsfeld had little to add to a State Department statement on the charges saying he would leave the former Pentagon favourite's fate up to the Iraqi justice system.\u003cbr/\u003eChalabi was an exiled leader who opposed President Saddam Hussein and, until May, he was paid U.S. 340,000 dollars a month by the U.S. government .\u003cbr/\u003eAllawi's government also announced the reinstatement of the death penalty, part of a new approach for putting down the 15-month insurgency in Iraq. \u003cbr/\u003eCapital punishment would be allowed for those convicted of murder, endangering national security and distributing drugs.\u003cbr/\u003eThis decision by the Iraqi government has caused some friction with some of the members of the coalition. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Danish Defence Minister, Soren Gade, said his troops would not be handing over prisoners to Iraqi courts if they were going to be subject to capital punishment.\u003cbr/\u003eGade also said he was very concerned about the latest threats of retaliation against members of the coalition in Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eDenmark has nearly 500 soldiers in Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eA threat was posted on the internet over the weekend by a group claiming to be affiliated with al-Qaida to launch attacks if Denmark didn't pull its forces out of Iraq by August 15th.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Rumsfeld said that he believed that America and its allies were making progress in disrupting terror organisations worldwide through increased cooperation.  \u003cbr/\u003eHe said that evidence was showing that it was becoming increasingly difficult for terrorists to move internationally or to shift their resources and funds as countries shared more and more
