Reporters \u003cbr/\u003eIn a sign of growing discontent with the Bush administration's policies at Guantanamo Bay, a diverse group of prominent legal and diplomatic Americans on Wednesday filed \"friend of the court\" briefs urging the U-S Supreme Court to review the ongoing detentions. \u003cbr/\u003eLeslie Jackson is one of them.\u003cbr/\u003eAs a 22 year old U-S Air Force officer, Jackson was held in captivity by Germans for 13 months during World War Two.  \u003cbr/\u003eHe says as bad as the conditions were in the P-O-W camp where he was held, the one thing that kept the prisoners' hopes up were their regular visits from the \"Geneva Convention\" men ... even if they were not necessarily effective.\u003cbr/\u003eWhen he heard about the possibly endless detention of prisoners on Guantanamo Bay, Jackson said he knew he had to take a stand against what he saw was the  violation of their human rights under the Geneva Convention.\u003cbr/\u003eOther filings were made by the International Bar Association, the Commonwealth Lawyers Association and Fred Korematsu, who more than 60 years ago challenged the U-S government's detention of Japanese Americans during the Second World War. \u003cbr/\u003eThe seven separate filings were made to the court questioning the legality of the treatment of those prisoners under the the U-S Constitution, the Geneva Convention and international law.\u003cbr/\u003eAll seven will be filed with regard to two cases; one filed by families of Kuwaiti detainees and another by Australian and British detainees. Some of the briefs will also be used in the case of Yaser Hamdi, a United States citizen being held in detention in South Carolina.\u003cbr/\u003eFormer Under Secretary for State for Economic Affairs William Rogers, representing 19 other retired diplomats, said instead of the United States being seen as the \"shining city on the hill\" as President Ronald Reagan used to say ... it is now \"the bully on the block\".\u003cbr/\u003eRogers said it was ironic that the detainees are being held in Cuba at the same time the Bush administration berates the government of Fidel Castro for its own detention of dissidents.\u003cbr/\u003eUnusual secrecy has shrouded the main military prison for suspected terrorists since before the first prisoners arrived in 2002.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Guantanamo detention mission started as an impromptu operation with 20 shackled terror suspects locked behind crude chain-link cells. \u003cbr/\u003eThe prison camp _ now an enclosed facility called Camp Delta _ has grown to 660 detainees from 42 countries accused of links to al-Qaida terror network or Afghanistan's ousted Taliban.\u003cbr/\u003ePrisoners are not allowed access to lawyers and none have been charged. At least three are teenagers.\u003cbr/\u003eU.S. Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld said September 11 the prisoners could be held until the war on terror ends.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was in response to this statement that former U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General, Rear Admiral Donald Guter, said it was necessary that tribunals or some legal frame work be put into place to address the issues raised by
