medical research.\u003cbr/\u003eFive years ago Reeve was paralysed after falling off a horse and landing on his neck.\u003cbr/\u003eSince then Reeve has fought for more funding for scientific research for a cure for injuries like his.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Wednesday, Reeve testified before a Senate Appropriations subcommittee arguing for funding for stem cell research.\u003cbr/\u003eThe controversy over whether or not to federally fund research of stem cells from embryos is linked to the debate over abortion and when life begins.\u003cbr/\u003eScientists from the National Institutes of Health want to use embryos left over from in-vitro fertilisation procedures, that would otherwise be discarded, in their research.\u003cbr/\u003eMedical researchers believe that stem cells from embryos are uniquely suited to regenerate and possibly replace cells that no longer work due to injury or disease.\u003cbr/\u003eScientists appeared before the Senate committee to say that stem cell research could lead to cures or preventions for a variety of afflictions -
