Kennedy airport.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was a spiritual sendoff for a much-needed cargo of the AmeriCares aid group, bound  for the town of Kossuth in Mississippi.\u003cbr/\u003eTwo portable shelters were put on board a cargo plane to be used by the congregations  in the town which has seen two African-American churches destroyed by arson. \u003cbr/\u003eThe pre-fabricated structures are normally used as hospitals in AmeriCares' disaster  relief operations around the world. \u003cbr/\u003eResidents from Kossuth present at the sendoff said they were pleased by this act of  generosity.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's all right. Made me feel good because everybody is pulling together and helping like  this. You never thought that people cared, you know, until stuff like that happened.   Everybody is coming together.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Robert Garrett, church parishioner, Kossuth, Mississippi\u003cbr/\u003eAmeriCares has already provided one shelters to a congregation in Louisiana.\u003cbr/\u003eThe shelters are the first of what AmeriCares officials hope will be a massive operation  to replace the dozens of churches lost over the past 18 months across the American  south.\u003cbr/\u003eMost of these churches have been the victims of arson and vandalism.\u003cbr/\u003eThe president of AmeriCares said the aim of the project was to bring people back to  their church as soon as possible.\u003cbr/\u003eBut this is a solution, we think, to get people back into a house of worship and to tell  everybody else that there is something that can be done, and it can be done  immediately to solve this problem.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Stephen Johnson, President AmeriCares\u003cbr/\u003eParishioners from Kossuth were joined in the ceremony by gospel singers from a  Brooklyn New York church.\u003cbr/\u003eThey said that the airlift of shelters was symbolic of a need to preserve basic rights that  make America free.\u003cbr/\u003eProminent guests were also at the launch.\u003cbr/\u003eThe actor James Earl Jones said the church burnings were an attempt to divide the  nation.\u003cbr/\u003eThe burning of a church is nothing less than the attempted incineration of one of the  central ideas which binds us together as a people and as a nation.
